As part of the Security Connected initiative, McAfee launched the first two of four new information security platforms, Endpoint Security 9 and Security Management 5. The platforms integrate information security for networks, PCs, mobile devices, and the cloud.
Security Connected is designed to break down information security silos for mobile devices, PCs, tablets, networks servers, hosted applications, cloud services, virtual machines, and databases. The information security systems for these different platforms are often not integrated, which increases the costs and reduces the effectiveness of information system programs, McAfee said.
“We are going from a marketplace with one billion devices to one with over 50 billion devices when thinking about all the new technologies that are IP-enabled, whether it’s a TV, point of sale system, a gaming console, or even a car. Our goal is to connect and manage all of these devices in a secure fashion….We think it’s a winning strategy and one our customers have been demanding”, said George Kurtz, McAfee CTO, in a McAfee video.
The initiative is made up to seven components: proactive security through integration and intelligence, predictive threat analysis, a portfolio of countermeasures, an intelligent security management platform, predictive security, an open partner ecosystem, and third-party system testing.
“Security Connected allows McAfee customers to move from a reactive environment to a proactive security architecture,” Kurtz said. The initiative “allows greater control over the management of risk. This is important in today’s environment organizations don’t have the manpower to focus on every threat that is out there. So they really have to focus on what is the real risk to their business and how they can minimize that risk in a cost efficient way”, he added.
