The major update coincides with the Scandinavian IT security vendor's move to join the ISF, the Information Security Forum, which will see the company adding its information resources to the ISF's shared knowledge pool.
According to the Danish company, PSI 2.0 has been updated to account for the fact that attacks on out-dated software and plug-ins are rarely blocked by traditional anti-virus and have therefore become more popular with cybercriminals in recent times.
The only solution to block these kinds of attacks is to apply security updates – commonly referred to as patches. Patches are offered free-of-charge by most software vendors, but, adds Secunia, finding all these patches is a tedious and time-consuming task.
Against this backdrop, Secunia says that PSI 2.0 automates this and alerts you when your programs and plug-ins require updating to stay secure.
Infosecurity notes that the firm, which reports that PSI has more than 3.7 million users worldwide, has posted a YouTube video on the updated version.
Announcing that Secunia has joined the ISF, Brian Birkvald, the firm's security partner director, said that senior business decision makers such as CFOs, CEOs, and CCOs are now starting to become more aware of the vulnerability threat and are taking greater responsibility.
"Transparency, control, and prevention through risk management are critical elements. In turn, risk management would be incomplete without considering information system security, and in order to reliably assess and address associated risks and threats, a process that maps the entire lifecycle is vital", he said.
"By joining the ISF, Secunia also further commits to helping resolve IT security challenges, particularly the threat posed by vulnerabilities in third-party software, which can compromise entire IT infrastructures if left unpatched", he added.
In joining the forum, he says that his firm gains access to ISF's comprehensive knowledge hub, valuable research reports, risk methodologies, and benchmarking tools. It also, he adds, gains the opportunity to collaborate with industry peers.
