Andrew, who presented at last month's Human Factors in Information Security event in London, was well respected in the IT security industry. A member of ISACA, he fell ill earlier this month whilst on a flight to North America.
After starting his career in IT with BT in the early 1980s, he held a succession of positions with companies as diverse as Price Waterhouse, Reuters and Merrill Lynch.
In 1999 he joined the IT security division of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he stayed until 2005, before moving on to his latest position as CSO with Unilever.
According to Martin Smith, founder of The Security Company and who co-chaired last month's event at which Andrew spoke, he will sorely missed by those members of the information security industry who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
"He was without doubt one of the true leaders and influencers in his field, not just in the UK but across the world", Martin told Infosecurity.
"Many of us have lost a friend as well as a colleague. He will remembered by his peers as a consummate professional with a real vision of the role of CISO."
According to his wife, Sally, Andrew's professional contact base was scattered far and wide, but she has asked his friends and colleagues to contact her regarding funeral arrangements, which should be finalised following his return to the UK about now.
