Australia's defense agency plans to beef up cybersecurity training

The department is looking for industry help to conduct a cybersecurity survey of its personnel, according to a report in ZDNet. Once the survey is completed, weak cybersecurity knowledge will be identified and security training modules developed.

“The project will contribute to defence and government security by supporting strategies to raise security awareness, establish a strong security culture and improve security management”, according to department tender documents cited in the report.

The department is looking for bids from companies to provide electronic training to department personnel through half-hour modules offered on the department’s CAMPUS training system.

Companies bidding for the contract must also be able to provide cybersecurity training posters, pamphlets, and face-to-face training as well, the report said.

This effort to beef up cybersecurity comes after Australia’s shadow defense minister, David Johnston, last year questioned the cybersecurity readiness of the department and called on stronger auditing of the department’s cybersecurity policies and software purchases.
