FireEye, a California-based cybersecurity specialist, revealed the addition of Enrique Salem as the eighth member of its board of directors today in a press release announcement. Salem, former president and chief executive at Symantec, is a security industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience in the technology sector.
"I have been watching FireEye for a while now and am very impressed with what they have accomplished and how they are redefining IT security. Their unique virtualized security model is exactly what is required in today’s threat landscape to help protect companies against this new wave of cyber attacks”, said Salem in a press release statement. “I am honored to be part of the FireEye board and am looking forward to working with the outstanding leadership team and board that has been assembled.”
In addition to being president and CEO during his 19 years at Symantec, Salem previously served as chief operating officer, group president of worldwide sales and marketing, and president of consumer products, among other senior leadership roles with the company. Salem came to Symantec while occupying the role of chief executive at Brightmail, which was acquired by the security vendor in May of 2004.
In March 2011, Salem was appointed to President Obama’s Management Advisory Board, which advises the executive branch “on matters related to Federal Government management and operation”, including productivity, technology applications, and customer service, according to previous statement from the White House Press Secretary’s office.
Additional members of the FireEye board include the company’s current CEO, David DeWalt; Ashar Aziz, FireEye founder and CTO; William Coughran, former senior VP of engineering at Google; Ronald Codd, former CFO and senior VP of finance and administration at PeopleSoft; Robert Lentz, former CISO of the US Department of Defense; Promod Hague, managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners; and Gaurav Garg, investor and founder of Redback Networks.
"Enrique is a great addition to the FireEye board of directors. He brings a wealth of IT security market expertise as well as a great deal of experience in the management of large public companies”, said Dave DeWalt in a press statement. "As FireEye continues to grow and expand, Enrique’s membership on the board will be invaluable, and we look forward to his insight and advice.”
