Hispasec enhances free online malware analysis service

Hispasec Sistemas, one of Spanish-speaking world's rising IT security stars, has enhanced its online malware analysis service to accept programmes of up to 10 megabytes, as well as supporting an impressive 23 languages via its on-screen interface

The Virus Total service, which is free of charge to use, also accepts files of up to 20 megabytes, provided users send in their code via email.

The major enhancement is that the service now supports automated analysis of executable code using more than 30 IT security and anti-malware applications in the commercial marketplace.

According to the Malaga-based company, this means that, if the uploaded code includes some sort of malware or attacking code, there is a strong chance it can be identified.

Because the service is free, reports are not instant - users must wait for the servers to perform the analyses in order. At peak times this process can take more than a few minutes.

Originally launched in 2007, Virus Total won a PC World `top 100' best products award in the same year, since when it has gained a significant following in South America, Spain and Germany.
