Intermedia describes itself as a "one-stop shop for cloud IT services and business applications." It gives its SMB customers cloud-based business applications all accessed via one control panel – thus providing its own SSO to its own products.
But BYOD and the consumerization of IT has changed the landscape. Staff use their own devices for both business and personal access to a wide range of additional public cloud services, from Twitter and LinkedIn to QuickBooks and Salesforce – thus diluting the value of Intermedia's inherent SSO.
What SaaSID does is provide secure SSO, complete with granular application access controls, to all cloud services from any device by building it into the browser. The integration of SaaSID into Intermedia's Office in the Cloud suite is thus a perfect fit for a more secure overall cloud experience.
“With this acquisition, Intermedia continues to be a pioneer in delivering secure business applications and cloud services to its customers and to the SMB market,” said Phil Koen, Intermedia chairman and CEO.
Headquartered at Mountain View, California with additional offices in New York, London and St. Petersburg, Intermedia has data centers in California, New Jersey, London, Colorado and Virginia. It currently has around 90,000 business customers and more than 700,000 users.
SaaSID was formed in May 2012 by Ed Macnair (CEO) and Richard Walters (CTO) coming out of Overtis. “Our single sign-on and cloud application control software is the perfect fit for all of Intermedia’s customers. SaaSID’s customers will immediately gain from the resources and expertise of a global organisation like Intermedia, as well as its ‘worry-free’ support model.”
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Ed Macnair becomes managing director, EMEA for Intermedia; Richard Walters has the new role of Vice President SaaSID; and the existing SaaSID team of 25 in Basingstoke and Bristol have received new contracts with Intermedia. It is expected that integration of SaaSID's SSO into Intermedia's Office in the Cloud will be complete early 2014.
