Interpol chief admits Facebook ID theft

Noble made the revelation at the inaugural Interpol Information Security Conference in Hong Kong, according to reports.

Considering the anonymity of cyberspace, it may in fact be one of the most dangerous criminal threats we will ever face, Noble said.

Interpol's Incident Response Team found that one of the impersonators was using the fake account to get information on a recent global Interpol-led operation.

Operation Infra Red, which led to 130 arrests, was aimed at tracking down criminal fugitives who had fled national jurisdictions.

Analysts said the case shows the ease with which the criminals are able to forge people's identities across all forms of social media sites to steal information.
