(ISC)2 has expanded its operations to put additional resources behind growing and local programs, with the opening of its new office in Alexandria, Va.
Also, (ISC)2 director of US government affairs, Dan Waddell, has added the role of NCR managing director to his duties.
The expanded corporate presence reflects the large member concentration that the organization has in the National Capital Region (NCR). The office is located just outside of Washington, D.C.
“Our records indicate that over 13,500 total (ISC)2 members, or 12% of our total worldwide member count, reside within the NCR, including those with both government and non-government affiliations,” said David Shearer, executive director at (ISC)², in a statement. “The NCR office was created to meet the specialized requirements of this important segment of our member base and to facilitate the execution of (ISC)2’s mission and vision at a regional level.”
The organization’s NCR chapter is dedicated to expanding the population of certified information security practitioners and advocating for the information security practitioner workforce in the area, with a number of goals: providing training opportunities and events that offer continuing professional education credits; organizing committees around thematic topics of current interest in the information security professionalization field; and publishing reports, white papers, blogs and other products that advocate and advance the interests of the information security professional in the area.
Waddell will be managing operations of the NCR and focusing the organization’s resources to support existing and new local initiatives such as training events, career fairs, awards programs, chapters and legislative activities.
“Our members are those on the front lines in D.C., who are being asked to help solve the nation’s most complex cybersecurity challenges,” said Waddell. “As the government’s investment in cybersecurity increases, we need to make sure that our members have a direct pipeline to those who influence change, that they are equipped with relevant and timely information, and that their voice is heard throughout the legislative and policy communities. As the new managing director, I will be directing resources for their benefit and on their behalf.”
