Utilities are facing a number of cybersecurity challenges as they implement smart grid networks: increased burden on IT and operations security to understand and manage increasing smart grid complexity; exposure to more advanced cybersecurity threats; limited resources to address emerging cybersecurity threats; and increased regulation and government oversight
Palisade provides advanced threat detection and forensic tools that give utility cybersecurity analysts intelligence needed to defend and maintain smart grid networks. It includes workflow enhancements built in to automate routine cybersecurity processes.
“As the smart grid is implemented, utilities are being challenged by regulators and customers to ensure the security of new digital energy management systems,” said Rich Mahler, cyber security senior manager at Lockheed Martin Energy Solutions.
"We've worked with Lockheed Martin's cyber security team to ensure the security of our Smart Grid roll out," said Pablo Vegas, chief information officer at American Electric Power. "By sharing their knowledge in this area, they have helped us take our security to the next level.”
Based in Columbus, Ohio, American Electric Power provides electricity to more than five million customers in Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
