According to TenBu Technologies, the Nio security tag for mobile phones will sell via Amazon and other electronics sites, and is programmable to `pair' with most Bluetooth-enabled smartphones.
Users load a small applet onto the smartphone and, whilst the Nio security tag is `in range' of the smartphone, all is well. If the Nio moves out of Bluetooth range of the mobile, however, an alarm sounds on the smartphone, as well as on the Nio security tag.
TenBu says that the smartphone software is programmable, allowing users to select when the Bluetooth alarm system is active. And since the Nio security tag unit has a USB port, it can also be plugged into a netbook or laptop and act as a portable alarm system for the laptop.
Used in this way, the laptop is effectively `paired' with the mobile phone - if either device moves outside of the range of the other, an alarm will sound.
The Nio software will run on most Blackberry mobiles, the Nokia E and N series, and most Windows Mobile-enabled handsets. Support is also available for several Sony-Ericsson mobiles, including the K-Series, W-Series, Z-Series, G502, V630i, V640i, C702, C902 and C905, as well as selected LG and Panasonic mobiles.
