Along with a 750 gigabyte (GB) unit, the secure data storage units are billed as unique in the marketplace and support AES 128 and 256-bit encryption as standard.
"The units are based on Western Digital 2.5 inch hard drives with on-unit electronics that allow data to be encrypted and decrypted on the fly", said Andy Cordial, Origin Storage's managing director.
"The units should be shippable to customers by the end of October and we estimate it will be four to six months before you'll see comparable systems from competing suppliers", he told Infosecurity.
Pricing has yet to be set for the secure data storage product, he said, but is likely to be around the £400 mark.
As with the 320 and 500 GB versions of the Data Locker, the secure data storage unit also includes a numeric keypad, allowing users to further secure their data (and the unit) using a 6 to 18 digit PIN, which is entered directly on the units itself.
Protection on the portable secure data storage unit includes a brute force attack detection system, which can trigger a data self-destruct, as well as one-touch drive erase for rapid redeployment.
