Some 57% of security professionals polled at Infosecurity Europe a week ahead of the UK General Election said they did not know which political party would improve cyber security the most.
Only 12% voted for the Conservatives, followed by 11% for the Liberal Democrats and 7% for Labour, while the remaining 13% nominated various other parties.
Ken Yearwood, regional director at Proofpoint, said the survey indicated that IT policy is very much an afterthought in the minds of the political parties.
"Security professionals are very critical that there are any concrete policies that will benefit the IT sector", he said.
Any campaign pledges around cyber security are largely unheard of and therefore have not been promoted to the people that matter, said Yearwood.
"This is a huge concern considering the importance for businesses these days to understand the value of security policies, in order to keep data protected and secure", he said.
