VASCO purchases Dutch digital certificates provider

With headquarters in Northbrook, Ill., VASCO is a supplier of authentication and e-signature security services for internet transactions. The planned purchase falls right in line with VASCO’s operations, as DigiNotar issues digital certificates/PKI identities for internet-based transactions, in addition to providing electronic signing, document registration, and SSL certificates.

VASCO and DigiNotar previously collaborated on EasyID, which contributed to a national consumer authentication platform in the Netherlands. DigiNotar used VASCO’s DIGIPASS/VACMAN authentication technology in the development of EasyID.

Because DigiNotar is licensed as an official Dutch certification authority, VASCO’s purchase of the private firm gives it entree into the Dutch market and, perhaps, the rest of the EU. Conversely, VASCO’s international presence will provide more markets for products and services developed by DigiNotar.

“We are thrilled to join forces with a global market leader such as VASCO,” said Tony de Bos, managing director at DigiNotar, in a press release statement. “DigiNotar was looking for a strong global partner to open the markets outside the Netherlands for its technologies. With customers in over 100 countries, VASCO is an ideal fit.”
