Dr Michael McGuire is Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Surrey, UK. He has developed an international profile in the study of digital crime and control and has published widely in these areas. His books Hypercrime: The New Geometry of Harm (Glasshouse, 2008) and Technology Crime & Justice (Routledge, 2016) complement a range of applied studies in the area including the 3 volume Web of Profit report which pioneered the study of the cybercrime economy. Dr McGuire has recently acted as an expert consultant to the UK Home Office, HSBC, The Royal Bank of Canada, and the US Treasury and his work has featured widely across international media sources such as the BBC, The Guardian, Financial Times, Washington Post, Computer Weekly The Economist and Fox News, amongst many others. He is currently a lead investigator on the new £3m ESPRC funded project AP4L (Adaptive PETs to Protect & emPower People during Life Transitions) which explores new ways of protecting online privacy. His forthcoming book Platform Criminality and Post Crime: How Cybercrime Changed will be published in Spring 2023.
